Tomistoma schlegelii

This photograph of an adult Tomistoma in a crocodile farm in Sumatra shows off the black banding which is present in both juveniles and adults. The base colour is chocolate brown. The distinctive colouration present in juvenile crocodiles is usually lost in adults - particular very large animals. In Tomistoma, however, much of these spectacular patterns are retained on the jaws, body and tail.
