Crocodylus niloticus

Adult female basking close to her nest (not visible). During the nesting season, females are exceptionally vigilant around their nest, and will act aggressively towards any approaching animals they perceive as a threat to their eggs. Although attacks on humans are relatively uncommon, a significant number occur during the nesting season. Therefore, nesting areas should be avoided at this time in order to avoid such encounters.
